What makes an ordinary men’s shirt the shirt you are looking for?

Many factors matter, but first and foremost is the fabric, which defines the style and makes it something truly special.
To create your perfect shirt, it is essential to carefully choose the fabric not only according to the season of use, but also based on the outfit and the occasion.

Cotton

Cotton fabrics, which in addition to being very durable, allow the skin to breathe, keep you cool in summer and warm in winter, making them perfect for all seasons. When made using the double-twisted technique, the fabric becomes noticeably softer, finer, and more durable than single-ply weaving—ensuring an impeccable look throughout the day.

Linen

Extremely fresh linen shirts, ideal to wear on hot summer days. This particular type of fabric features a high moisture-absorbing capacity, excellent thermoregulatory properties, and good durability. Perfect for summer evenings both by the sea and in the city.

Silk

Lustre, softness, and a pleasant feel to the touch are the main characteristics of a silk shirt, a must-have garment in the wardrobe of every man who favors an elegant and refined style. Perfect for important events.

The Craftsmanship

Fil-à-fil fabric has French origins; in fact, the term is the literal translation of “thread by thread.” It is one of the lightest fabrics, featuring a weave created by intertwining white threads with colored ones.
The resulting texture creates a highly detailed optical effect, similar to a striped or micro-check pattern. Although it is a very lightweight fabric, fil-à-fil can be worn in any season, and thanks to its special weaving, it is available in many color variations. Perfect for the businessman or for a truly special day off.

The name derives from the university city of Oxford in England. Its distinctive feature is that it is made with fine yarns (often colored) in the warp and thicker white yarns in the weft, giving it the characteristic “speckled” or “checkerboard” appearance.
Originally used for sportswear and heavier than other options, this fabric is now ideal for making versatile shirts that can be worn with ease. A button-down collar is recommended! Perfect for leisure time or for your working days.

The name poplin derives from “papalina,” as the production of this fabric began in Avignon, the seat of the Papacy in the 14th century.
Poplin is characterized by a subtle ribbed effect created by its plain weave, with a double number of warp threads compared to the weft. Thanks to its special structure, it offers excellent breathability, making it suitable even in winter for those who desire comfort and freshness under a jacket, and it lends itself well to square-pattern designs. A compact, fine, durable fabric that is soft to the touch: a true classic of men’s fashion. Perfect for work and formal occasions.

Denim is known worldwide as the base fabric for jeans garments, first and foremost the iconic blue jeans. However, this fabric is used not only for trousers but also for shirts in the characteristic indigo color, distinguished by their durability and moderate thermal insulation.
Denim is made with a weft of threads in the natural cotton color (white) and a warp of vertical blue-dyed threads. Ideal for leisure wear.

Twill fabric features a twill weave, meaning its binding points are arranged diagonally; this construction creates subtle raised lines at a 45-degree angle, giving the shirt a distinctive diagonal texture.
A compact, fairly heavy fabric that holds its crease for a long time and is easy to iron. Ideal for travel and for a formal shirt that never wrinkles.

Flannel is one of the softest fabrics used for shirts. Often associated with sporty wear, a flannel shirt can be particularly warm and is ideal for the colder periods of the year.
There are many color variations, and the weave often features different patterns and shades based on the wearer’s taste. It can be made of wool, a cotton blend, or—if a lighter option is desired—entirely of cotton. To the touch, a flannel shirt feels soft, warm, and slightly fuzzy. Perfect for leisure time in autumn or winter.

The weaves of this type of fabric resemble the hexagons of a honeycomb.
The English weave is usually preferred for cotton or linen shirts, suitable for warm climates thanks to the breathable and elastic effect they provide to the wearer.

An ideal fabric for the hot summer months, as it is light, breathable, and thinner than almost any other.
Its qualities are due to the weaving of extremely fine warp and weft threads, as well as the exclusive use of pure cotton.

Moreal Roma crafts shirts in a linen–cotton blend that combines the freshness of linen with the softness of cotton.
With linen accounting for 65% of the total fabric weight, shirts made from this material are especially suitable for wearing during the summer season.

Collars

The collar is the element that more than any other defines the style of a shirt, framing the face and determining its elegance or its casual appeal. In the Moreal Roma tailoring workshop, active since 1954, every collar is carefully designed to combine aesthetics, comfort, and artisanal tradition, expressing the personality of the wearer.

Cuffs

Cuffs are not a negligible detail in the creation of a shirt with a perfect fit. Moreal, in Rome since 1954, crafts several types of cuffs, among which you can find the one best suited to your stylistic as well as functional needs.

Colors

Choosing the color is not a detail to be underestimated: it ranges from classic shades, such as white and light blue—essential in the wardrobe of every man who favors a simple style—to bolder tones, suited to those who like to dare and do not want to go unnoticed, such as purple, salmon, and orange.
